Longtime columnist claims Travis Hunter would be unanimous Heisman on Alabama, Ohio State
Longtime columnist Kirk Bohls claimed that Travis Hunter would be an automatic Heisman Trophy lock if he played for a blue-blood university like Alabama or Ohio State. Bohls went as far as to say Hunter is a victim of "brand-name snobbery."
"Travis Hunter is the ultimate throwback from another era," said Bohls, the veteran Houston Chronicle columnist who has had a Heisman vote since the 1980s (h/t CBS Sports). "If he was doing what he's doing while wearing an Alabama or Ohio State uniform, he would become a unanimous Heisman winner. He's that good, that durable, that versatile. He might be a victim of brand-name snobbery."
Longtime QB coach and former NFL veteran Jordan Palmer believes it makes sense for Hunter to have chosen Jackson State out of high school. For Hunter, it was all about playing for a coach (Deion Sanders) who knows how to get the most out of him.
"Now it makes sense to me why this kid went to Jackson State," Palmer said. "That all makes sense to me now. I'm sure Deion sees a lot of himself in him -- with none of the mistakes, none of the off-the-field distractions, additions, whatever Deion had in his closet as a young man. I'm a big fans of what Deion is doing.
"Lucky for us, because Deion is so polarizing and marketable, we're getting to see it on nationally televised games."
Travis Hunter wouldn't have been lost in the shuffle anywhere
Typically, recruits who attend the Alabama's and Ohio State's run the risk of being lost in the shuffle at a program that has a depth chart full of blue-chips.
Hunter is different. That kind of talent doesn't get benched for anything.
Some may regret not seeing Hunter in the SEC or Big Ten, but at Colorado, and Jackson State before that, Hunter got to share an unrivaled spotlight along with Shedeur Sanders.
