The Las Vegas Raiders, who are in desperate need of a future franchise quarterback, passed on Shedeur Sanders seven times in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead of making the bold move, they waited until the sixth round and selected Cam Miller out of North Dakota State.
Now, longtime Raiders fan Ice Cube is calling them out.
As a Broncos fan myself, I’ll be honest: I’m glad Vegas passed on Shedeur. I’ve seen what this kid can do. We all have. If the Raiders had drafted him, we’d be talking about our biggest rival getting a quarterback who could torch us twice a year for the next decade.
Deion Sanders just a phone call away
While appearing on The Skip Bayless Show, Ice Cube didn’t hold back about how disappointed he was that his Raiders skipped over the former Buffs star.
“It did bother me, I wanted him,” Cube said. “But I understand… you take him, you don’t have a good season or two, Deion (Sanders) is getting your job. He’s definitely not a fifth-round pick.”
That last line says a lot. The hip-hop icon and die-hard Raiders supporter isn’t the only one who feels that way. Many people insisted that one of the factors in not drafting Shedeur was that the head coach would basically sign his job over to Coach Prime in two years.
But Coach Prime has made it clear, he has no intention of leaving Boulder.
But I get the logic. If a team struggles with Shedeur under center—Dad’s just a phone call away. How long before ownership starts daydreaming about Prime Time on their sidelines?
That pressure alone might’ve scared off a few front offices, especially ones already on the hot seat.
Raiders' loss, Browns' gamble
The Cleveland Browns finally ended Sanders’ slide, taking him in Round 5. The Browns’ quarterback room is a traffic jam — Deshaun Watson (returning from a torn Achilles), Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and now Shedeur Sanders — but it’s also wide open.
People like Lesean McCoy and former NFL GM Scot McCloughlin think he will win this job outright, especially if Joe Flacco can’t separate from the pack. The battle between Sanders and Gabriel will be one of the top preseason storylines in the NFL.
Broncos fans can breathe a little easier
Look, I want Shedeur to succeed. We love what he did for CU and what he means to the Buffaloes legacy. But we didn’t need that success coming in silver and black.
The Raiders are still the enemy. And seeing Shedeur in Vegas, throwing bombs in Allegiant Stadium, would’ve been a nightmare scenario for us in Broncos Country.
Ice Cube might be upset — but many of us in Colorado quietly exhaled when Vegas passed.
Now, Shedeur gets to prove everyone wrong in Cleveland. And we get to root for him without worrying about him lighting us up in the division
That’s a win-win for Buffs and Broncos fans alike.
