Netflix announces Coach Prime’s life story is coming to the streaming service in 2026

Netflix is diving deep into the life of Deion Sanders. The new “PRIME TIME” docuseries will explore his rise from two-sport legend to being the Colorado head football coach.

When Deion Sanders took the job in Boulder, the national spotlight followed him. First, Amazon with the "Coach Prime" series, and now Netflix is taking things to an entirely new level. The streaming service announced today that a full-blown docuseries on Coach Prime is on the way in 2026.

PRIME TIME, the upcoming Netflix sports documentary, promises something personal: a raw, unfiltered look at the man behind the sunglasses.

We’ve watched him turn the Colorado Buffaloes into the most talked-about team in college football. But how much do we really know about Coach Prime?

From Prime Time to Coach Prime

Before the transfer portal. Before the Louis luggage speech. Before Boulder even knew what was about to hit it, Deion Sanders was a living sports myth.

In 1989, he hit a home run with the Yankees and returned a punt for a touchdown with the Falcons. In the same week. No one else in the history of sports has done that. ESPN originally did a documentary on that day alone! That kind of flair is what made “Prime Time” a household name. But the Netflix series is aiming to show us what came after the headlines.

It’s going to be a fascinating deep dive into Deion’s struggles and his spiritual growth. The stuff that shaped the man who’s now pouring into our CU football program.

Netflix series details

The series will be called PRIME TIME, and it’s currently in production. It’s slated to drop in 2026 and will span three hour-long episodes. That’s three full hours of Deion, not just the coach, but the father and the man of faith.

According to Sanders, “Y’all knew a part of me each step of the way, but you never knew DEION.” That line hits if you’ve followed his coaching journey in Boulder. Because what we’ve seen is transformation, not just for the team, but for the man himself.

The documentary will also touch on parts of his life many don’t know: his rocky relationship with his biological father, surviving an attempted suicide, and the terrifying health scares with his leg.

Why Buffs fans should be paying attention

Let’s call it what it is: this documentary is going to shine an even bigger national spotlight on Colorado football.

The Buffs are already the most talked-about team in the country, but once this drops on Netflix, we’re going to see even more eyes turn to Boulder.

This series has the potential to make Coach Prime a household name even more and tie his current life directly to the story of the Buffaloes.

Plus, how many other programs can say their head coach is the subject of a major Netflix series while still actively building a team? I loved the Coach McCartney 30 for 30, but this puts us in a totally different category.

What this means for the Colorado Buffaloes

There’s a reason recruits want to play for Prime. There’s a reason ESPN can’t stop talking about Colorado. There’s a reason Boulder is becoming a destination and no longer a stepping stone program.

I know this Netflix series is a story about Deion Sanders but I hope it also shows more of what’s happening here at CU. The cultural shift. The attention. And some of the history of the program.

We couldn't be more excited.
