There have been plenty of questions surrounding Deion Sanders' future at Colorado the last few weeks. From concerns over the Buffaloes' ability to spend money to health issues that kept him out of Boulder and at his ranch in Texas all summer, how much longer Coach Prime is leading the charge for the Buffaloes has been in doubt.
What doesn't seem to be a question, however, is that Sanders will coach Colorado in 2025. He is nearing a return to Boulder, and he attended Big 12 Media Days in Frisco two weeks ago. The third-year Colorado head coach has been mum about the health issues that have ailed him the last few months. Sanders and his family have promised a forthcoming update to let everyone know what is going on, but for now, everything has been purely speculation.
The popular theory is that it is related to the numerous blood clot issues he has dealt with over the last few years. Sanders is recovering, but is still not 100%, as he made known in a new video posted by his oldest son, Deion Jr., on Sunday night.
Coach Prime mentions in the video that he is "still going through something," but the updates in the video are mostly positive. Sanders is seen briefly getting into a cold tub, playing basketball and tennis, and then chatting with his daughter after what is described by Prime as a "run-walk."
Deion Sanders is expected to be back at Colorado this week
According to his son last week, he and his father will be back in Boulder sometime this week. Fall camp is about to get started as Colorado begins its preparations for the 2025 season.
Sanders has a lot of work in front of him. He has talent in the cupboards in Boulder, but replacing Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and quite a few impactful front-seven defenders won't be easy. Hunter is irreplaceable, but between Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman JuJu Lewis, the Buffaloes should have steady play at QB. With an improved OL, and a running QB in Salter, Colorado should have a dynamic ground game for the first time in the Prime era.
Sanders also has plenty of work to do on the recruiting trail. His absence over the summer has Colorado working from well behind its peers on the trail. The Buffaloes have picked up steam recently, but they currently sit with the No. 80 class in the composite.
The Buffaloes open the season against Georgia Tech in 39 days.
