CBS Sports' Josh Edwards projected the Las Vegas Raiders to land Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft -- tabbing Shedeur Sanders to end up with the NY Giants with the second overall pick.
"Cam Ward has been the most consistent quarterback during the second half of the college football season. He has lifted Miami to some wins this season and his decision-making has improved. If he were in last year's quarterback class, he would have probably been the fourth or fifth quarterback prospect," Edwards wrote of Ward before saying of Sanders that "Deion Sanders would probably prefer his son go to the Raiders or Giants, as opposed to some of the other options often mentioned. In this scenario, Shedeur Sanders is taken No. 2 overall. The Giants would not consider employing his father as coach, would they?"
On that Deion-preferring-the-Raiders bit, that much is obvious. Whenever it happened -- Coach Prime claimed it was back during the Super Bowl --he told Antonio Pierce to draft his sons. Tom Brady being in charge in Vegas doesn't change that plan a bit. It strengthens it. Even if Pierce doesn't stick under new ownership. Shedeur has also been obvious about his intentions to end up on the Raiders.
Expect Ward and Sanders to be flip-flopped. The Giants need a QB option and can draft Ward while handing the keys to a stopgap signing like Jameis Winston to compete until the Miami Heisman finalist is ready.
Shedeur and Deion need the Raiders. The hell they'd raise if a team defied them would be not worth the headache for the Giants or whoever else would defy them.
