Deion Sanders’ assessment of his son, QB Shedeur Sanders, may just be accurate. In light of a new ESPN poll, though, Shedeur’s No, 1 spot may not be all that impressive.
Coach Prime announced recently that with no exceptions, "his son Shedeur Sanders would be the first overall pick, and the Giants would take him.
ESPN, so far, tends to agree with the number one spot. That pick would now go to the Titans.
However, though Sanders stands atop the draft QB rankings, scouts and executives aren’t all that impressed. ESPN reports that “One scout initially described the quarterback class as 'muddy,' and the consensus among scouts is that this crop of quarterbacks is a distinct downgrade from last year.”
Additionally, “When picking their top quarterback, scouts and executives used words such as "reluctantly" and "don't love it." One scout said he was unsure if there are any franchise quarterbacks in this draft,” per ESPN.
A scout went on to describe the 2025 QB class as "one of the weakest classes… There's not a lot of depth to it, and there's not a lot of high-talent players either."
Again, this stands in direct contrast to Coach Prime’s evaluation of his son, though the argument for some form of nepotistic bias is certainly a strong one.
So, yes, Shedeur stands atop the QB poll at this moment, receiving eleven votes to Miami QB Cam Ward’s nine.
But, now the question arises: will Shedeur, despite going so high in the draft, actually succeed in the NFL?
Only time will tell.
