On SI's Jason Jones linked Deion Sanders to potential coaching vacancies at a trio of SEC schools, LSU, Florida, and Auburn, should Brian Kelly, Billy Napier, and/or Hugh Freeze all get fired next season.
"At the collegiate level, Sanders has been linked to several high-profile programs. LSU, Florida, and Auburn are potential destinations if coaching vacancies arise next season. These programs offer the kind of resources and visibility that could appeal to Sanders, who reportedly would only consider opportunities that allow him to be 'his full self.' This includes embracing his unique coaching style, charisma, and ability to bring his own team of advisors and staff," Jones wrote.
Jones also relayed the NFL teams that could have interest in Coach Prime which included teams across the NFC and AFC.
"Sanders’ name has also surfaced in discussions about NFL head coaching opportunities. His connection to the Dallas Cowboys, where he starred as a player in the mid 90s, has made him a natural candidate should they part ways with Mike McCarthy. Other teams, including the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears, have also been mentioned as potential suitors."
Ultimately, retirement is more likely than any jump to the NFL or to an SEC school whose boosters have more pride than allowing Coach Prime to skip out on donor events. One unnamed NFL staffer told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler exactly why Deion to the NFL is particularly unlikely.
"He's a good fundraiser and college guys buy into what he sells," the personnel director said. "He's tried to hire good coaches, but have heard that he can be hard to work for. And I'm not sure the NFL guys will be in as quickly and also stay as engaged."
Sanders could be a Colorado lifer from here on out in the coaching realm. Will it be another year or another 10 years in Boulder is the real question.
