After one half of football in the 2025 season, Colorado fans have already seen enough of OC Pat Shurmur.

After a touchdown on the opening drive of the game against Georgia Tech, thanks to a Jackets turnover giving them a short field, the Colorado offense has been stuck in quicksand as the game reached halftime with Georgia Tech leading 13-10.

The Buffaloes mustered just 119 yards of total offense. Shurmur seems hesitant to allow Liberty transfer QB Kaidon Salter to throw the ball down the field, despite Salter hitting Omarion Miller with a 39-yard strike on one of the few opportunities he had to push it.

Colorado managed just five total first downs, two of which came on the opening drive touchdown.

Colorado fans want Deion Sanders to make a change with offensive play-calling

Life after Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter was never going to be easy. The transition was always going to take time, but there needs to be a shred of creativity in the offensive play calling to give the players a chance. The ground game has been semi-effective, but they have not been able to sustain drives.

Maybe a bit early to make that declaration, but you have to remember how frustrating the play calling was most of last season. Shedeur Sanders had to play hero-ball for anything to work. He's not walking through that door, unfortunately.

It'll be interesting what, if any, adjustments Shurmur makes in the second half. He seems to be a bit out of his depth with how to call the game effectively with a QB like Salter. If that's the case, does Colorado consider handing the keys to freshman Julian Lewis?

Salter averaged 4.8 yards per pass attempt in the first half. His stat line: 6-of-10 for 48 yards and a TD pass to Dekalon Taylor. Colorado has to do something different in the second half. These receivers are too talented to be effectively rendered moot.

This was certainly the opinion of many this offseason. Colorado's offense was prolific at times a year ago, but far too inconsistent.

Someone want to remind Pat that Omarion Miller, Dre'lon Miller, Sincere Brown, Hykeem Williams, etc., exist?

This may be the only real solution for things to seriously change. If Shurmur can't get this offense out of the mud, could Coach Prime ultimately hand the playcalling duties over to Byron Leftwich at some point down the road?
