2019 LSU Joe Burrow type season predicted for Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders
DNVR's Jake Schwanitz predicted a 2019 LSU Joe Burrow-type season for Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders in 2024; not necessarily the massive touchdown numbers and a championship, but a massive year-over-year jump.
"It's Joe Burrow for me," Schwanitz said regarding who his comp for Shedeur is. "Extremely accurate. This is not even trait-wise, but he can have a senior season this year like Joe Burrow did with that LSU team. I'm not saying he's going to throw 60 touchdown passes but he can have an explosion from that jump to jump, year over year, that Joe Burrow had.
"Accurate as hell. I feel like he has good feel, good ball placement all over the field. Not the strongest arm in the world but can still attack all areas. More athletic than people are going to give him credit for, because Shedeur will rip off, as we saw against USC, 30-plus-yard runs. He's got that swagger, that confidence with him. Shedeur talks a lot about Tom Brady and I feel like we were comping Joe Burrow to Tom Brady a lot when he was coming up too. Also with Burrow, the toughness Shedeur showed last season."
Evoking the 2019 LSU Tigers in any confidence may give Buffs fans bad flashbacks to when FanDuel's X account posted a graphic asking who would win between that national championship LSU team and the 2023 Colorado team after they won their first three games.
But this is about Burrow and Shedeur, not the Tigers and Buffs.
Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders compared himself to Tom Brady and Mike Vick
Schwanitz had a better comparison for Shedeur than the "Grown QB" had for himself. Shedeur called himself a mixture of Tom Brady and Mike Vick. Certainly, Shedeur is closest to Burrow, then Brady.
Nothing about Sanders' performance thus far has resembled Vick in the slightest, however.
Shedeur possesses athleticism enough to become a dual-threat, but it's not likely he'll ever come close to being the weapon in the running game that Vick was at Virginia Tech and in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles.
Being the next Burrow is still a pretty good fate, though.
