Analyst: Coach Prime made CSU-Colorado football post-game moment with Jay Norvell more than it was

One analyst believes Coach Prime made his Colorado State-Colorado football postgame moment with Rams coach Jay Norvell "more than it was."

OutKick's David Hookstead had quite the interpretation of the Colorado State-Colorado football postgame confrontation between Coach Prime and Jay Norvell: that Deion Sanders not taking Norvell's apology for shots about how he was raised was making it all about himself.

"Norvell calmly tried to explain he wouldn’t ever bring anyone’s family into a beef and in classic Deion fashion, he had to make it more than it was," Hookstead wrote.

The OutKick writer would then cover for Jay Norvell's wife, Kim, taking a shot at Shedeur Sanders in a now-deleted tweet.

"Shedeur also did his best tough guy act during the quick moment," Hookstead prefaced before saying, "That’s the part Kim seems to have taken issue with. "

Norvell alluded to his own mother teaching him how to talk with adults, taking his hat and glasses off, because she raised him right.

"I sat down with ESPN today, and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder,” Norvell prefaced before saying, "I told them, I took my hat off and I took my glasses off. I said when I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat off and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.”

Jay Norvell was obviously making it personal with Coach Prime's Colorado football program

With Henry Blackburn's dirty hit on Travis Hunter setting the tone for a close game that Colorado State had a hold of until the fourth quarter and overtime, it's clear the Rams took the 2023 Rocky Mountain Showdown personally. They wanted to win. Norvell did everything he could to will that into existence, and kudos to him for it.

But part of that strategy undoubtedly was getting under Coach Prime's skin by taking a personal shot at how he was raised. Did he ever specifically mention Connie Knight by name? No, but bringing his own mother into it was meant to plant the seed about why Sanders doesn't take his hat and glasses off.

Norvell is not slick, and Coach Prime rightfully called him out when the two were face to face.
