Big 12 football power rankings after spring portal closes: Did Buffaloes get better?

Coach Prime and his family have talked a big game out all offseason in Boulder, but where do the Buffs realistically stack up in the new-look Big 12? It might not be as high as Sanders and Colorado fans hope.

450. 15. Head Coach: Willie Fritz. . . Houston. . . . Last Year: 4-8

Key losses: Sam Brown, Matthew Golden, Patrick Paul Key additions: Corey Platt Jr. Maliq Carr, Kendre Gant

It was past time for Houston and Dana Holgorsen to part ways, so after a rough first year in the Big 12, Houston was wise to move on to Willie Fritz. Fritz built a dominant G5 program at Tulane and despite not making many needle-moving additions this offseason, he’s begun to lay a solid foundation for the program to be built around.

Players like Corey Platt Jr. a linebacker who followed Fritz from Tulane and former Michigan State tight end Maliq Carr will be solid contributors in 2024. This could be a lengthy rebuild, so for now, Houston fans can focus their attention on Kelvin Sampson and the basketball team’s dominance of the school’s new conference.
