Big 12 football power rankings after spring portal closes: Did Buffaloes get better?

Texas Tech. . . . 468. . . Head Coach: Joey McGuire. Last Year: 6-7 Independence Bowl W. 8

Key losses: Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, Myles Cole Key additions: Micah Hudson, Josh Kelly, Jalin Conyers

Joey McGuire didn’t make any big splashes in the transfer portal, but he did on the recruiting trail. He is capitalizing on other programs that are turning their attention away from high school talent. In the 2024 class, McGuire landed five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson and four-star quarterback Will Hammond.

Those players may not take Texas Tech to new heights this season, but are foundational pieces for the program going forward. McGuire has things headed in the right direction in Lubbock, but he just needs a little more time for it all to come together.
