Big 12 may not have interest in FSU because of public fallout with ACC
The Big 12 may not have an interest in FSU given the university's ugly public divorce with the ACC -- and according to longtime college football radio host Greg Swaim, Brett Yormark may have his eyes on other schools from the conference instead.
"Is Yormark and the the Big 12 pulling the Old Switcheroo on the ACC...and us? What if I told you FSU was only a smokescreen for the Big 12, and it's other schools without the egos that Yormark really wants, even if it takes until 2026-2027, but cost much less? We now have three team members, instead of the original two, and the news is breaking fast and furious in Charlotte, as the ACC Media Days begins officially tomorrow," Swaim said on July 21.
When Swaim says there are now three team members instead of the two, it reads as though FSU and Clemson aren't the schools the conference actually has its sights set on.
UNC is the jewel of all realignment considering the success of the Tar Heels football and basketball teams while Virginia is a valuable television market any of the Big 12, Big Ten, or SEC to add.
Clemson, FSU, Louisville, VA Tech, Miami, and NC State or GA Tech all predicted to join the Big 12 a few days ago
Things change at the speed of light in realignment, with a few days ago Swaim claiming that Clemson and FSU would be among six teams -- along with Louisville, VA Tech, Miami, and either NC State or GA Tech -- that'd leave the ACC for the Big 12 if Yormark got his way.
"So getting a lot of you asking me which six ACC teams the Big 12 is likely to poach," Swaim prefaced before saying, "Obviously very early in the process, and we'll know who's leaving by 8/15 for the ACC deadline, but here would be my educated guess as of today...Clemson, FSU, Card Nation, VT, The U, and either NC State or GT."
Coaches and administrators at ACC media days will have plenty of chatter to address this coming week.
