Analyst wonders if Coach Prime's Colorado football portal methods are way to do things
Mike Farrell of the Mike Farrell Sports brand gave the question of whether Coach Prime was on fire in the transfer portal with a yes and was mostly bullish on the offseason Colorado football has had thus far, but he did sneak in a ponderance on if the way Deion Sanders is building his roster is "the way to do it."
"He’s at it once again as Deion Sanders revamps his roster once again with portal players," Farrell wrote. "He already has 10 portal commitments, and it’s mid-December, so he should likely land 30 or more after retooling 75% of his roster last year. You can argue if it’s the way to do things or not, but he’s landed some talent. He has some much-needed OL, and getting Will Sheppard from Vanderbilt is a nice addition. The Wade brothers from Kentucky will help with depth as well. Deion is loading up once again."
Of course, that question can't be answered until the final product is realized on the field. The 2022 offseason was designed to lay down the foundation offensively with skill players to get their feet wet in a unique environment in Boulder's elevation in year one of the Deion era, and 2023's offseason has been designed to allow those skill players to shine with a much-improved offensive line.
Of course, it's only improved on paper. How the group gels, along with how CU replaces Xavier Weaver and if it can instill an impactful running game, will directly answer the "is this the right way to do it" roster-building question.
Coach Prime delivering on Colorado football offensive line promises
Given how Shedeur Sanders's body broke down as the 2023 season progressed, it's not shocking to see Coach Prime deliver on the promises made about the offensive line needing a facelift.
BuffZone's Brian Howell gave Sanders kudos for doing so.
"Colorado head coach Deion Sanders promised an offensive line overhaul and he’s delivering," the the University of Colorado athletics insider wrote.
Now, Coach Prime just has to deliver on those College Football Playoff promises he put out to the universe...
