During the December 20 edition of The Rich Eisen Show, Coach Prime confirmed a long-rumored Colorado football hiring ahead of the 2024 season: Warren Sapp, who still hasn't been given a definitive title.

“To see him go get his diploma, because I know what he wants to do, he wants to coach on this staff and he wants to be a part of this staff,” Sanders said (h/t Yahoo Sports). “And he is going to be a part of this staff.

“Even the offensive linemen, they glean from him too because he’s so thought-provoking that he can tell them ‘Don’t let the defensive lineman get you at that point or this point or this point.’ I think he’s that — he’s a wealth of knowledge and he’s hilarious, man.”

Sapp had recently discussed completing his diploma before joining the Buffs; something he was confident in during the December 13 edition of Thee Pregame Show.

“I’ve got a couple more screws to tighten down, a couple more things to finish and I should have something to hang on the wall,” said Sapp (h/t BuffZone). “It’s gonna be on (Sanders) then. I’m gonna push the ball in his court. Whenever he gets the ball in his hand, I know what he’s gonna do with it. He’s taking it to the house.”

Warren Sapp's qualifications to coach Colorado football questioned

Sapp is a legend on the gridiron, but can he actually coach? That was the question recently asked by Footballscoop’s John Brice.

“Sanders has yet to specify the potential role that Sapp is going to fill, and it’s unclear if Sapp already is qualified to be a full-time, on-field assistant coach — should Sanders have an opening on the defensive side of the ball,” Brice wrote.

Sapp has no official coaching experience on record, so it'd be a bit of a risky hire for Coach Prime, though the NFL celebrity Sapp carries could go a long way with the parents of recruits who saw him dominate for 12 years professionally and three years at The U before that.
