2024 Colorado football defensive back commit Angel Lopez is hoping to form a dynamic duo with former 5-star Miami flip Cormani McClain, who nearly transferred from the Buffs during the 2023 season as Coach Prime was coming at him for not knowing the playbook and being late to meetings in September.

"Lopez adds depth in the Buffs secondary with a few emerging talents," BuffsBeat's Jeff Hauser prefaced before saying, "One of those being Cormani McClain who's also a fellow native of the Sunshine State. The one future teammate Lopez is excited to work with the most."

"We'll make a great duo for the next couple years," Lopez told BuffsBeat when speaking of McClain.

Lopez revealed how excited he was to play for Coach Prime, despite how tough he was on the teammate he's most excited to suit up alongside.

"Growing up in Tallahassee, we have tons of great athletes come out of here," Lopez said. "The competition is outstanding and òbeing under Coach Prime's guidance will be great. He's the best to do it at my position, and to be the best you gotta get coached by the best."

Cormani McClain not leaving Colorado football for transfer portal deemed 'impressive'

Mike Farrell of the Mike Farrell Sports brand sees McClain not leaving as impressive.

"It is quite impressive that Cormani McClain hasn’t hit the portal," Farrell prefaced before saying, "After the Deion call out and with him hailing all the way from Florida I thought he was for sure a flight risk."

Luckily, McClain saw the forest through the trees and understands how much the attention Coach Prime gave him will benefit him from an on-field standpoint and from an NIL perspective. McClain is now the man who walked through hell in Boulder during the 2023 season but came out on the other side.
