Deion Sanders, entering his second season with the Colorado football program, looks to raise the bar from what was previously made after mustering a 4-8 record in 2023. But this time around, Sanders is being cautious and weary about his own health, maneuvering around blood clots located in his thighs.
"I'm getting better," Sanders said (h/t BuffsBeat). "My health journey has been a tremendous challenge but a learning experience as well. I remember last year close to this time, I had two surgeries in my thighs to remove blood clots and the goal was just to run out the first game before my team."
Despite the challenges that come along, he has a great head on his shoulders that will persevere through anything in the way. That's the kind of strength that has bolstered his career ever since his NFL days and up until now running a college team.
Thankfully, the head coach is progressing along the recovery stages, which is good but still needs to labor moving forward.
Regardless of football, everyone's health should be their No. 1 priority.
Fortunately, Sanders is surrounded by a great medical staff that will give their 100% to making sure he's back healthy and ready to go by the fall.
What other medical issues has Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders dealt with?
Last year, Prime Time made the decision to amputate not one, but two of his toes. He said, "man, forget the toes," expressing extreme nonchalant instincts that many do not possess.
"Man, forget the toes," Sanders responded (h/t Bleacher Report). "They were charcoal black. They were dead. You look down there and it's two black toes. Take 'em. What am I going to do with them?"
This was not the first setback for the 56-year-old.
There are not too many people who would easily give up on their bodies like that, however, Sanders is in a world of his own. He refuses to let any roadblock hinder his journey.
The beautiful lesson in this is to never give up. Keep on going no matter how hard circumstances may be. And even make sacrifices you never thought of making — just maybe not to the extent of Sanders' choices.
