Colorado football offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur sounds extremely hopeful about the Buffs' 2024 season based on what he's seen at CU fall camp. Shurmur credited his group with making him feel younger and lauded them for coming together.

“Practice has been competitive," Shurmur said on August 2 (h/t DNVR's Jake Schwanitz). "I feel 20 years younger working with these guys. I feel like we’re coming together as a team. It’s been fun. This has been fun for me, working with these young players I’ve got a fresh new perspective. We’ve got a lot of really fine players.”

Shurmur is taking over on a full-time basis to help Shedeur Sanders transition to the pros in 2025. Coach Prime brought in an experienced NFL voice in Shurmur to be an analyst originally, but his promotion to co-OC alongside Sean Lewis foreshadowed the latter's exit in the offseason. Lewis is now with San Diego State as the Aztecs' head coach as a reminder.

Clearly, his job isn't completely guaranteed for the entire campaign. Deion Sanders has made big changes mid-season before and had to replace his defensive coordinator in the offseason after Charles Kelly took a job in his native Alabama at Auburn. He's used to making major personnel decisions at the Power 4 level.

Shurmur will have to continually earn his keep, but luckily, Shedeur looked effective under Shurmur against Arizona and Oregon State after the OC switch last year. There's plenty of hope the partnership will help the "Grown QB" end up as a top NFL draft pick as he's projected to be.

Devin Rispress touts Deion Sanders being a Hall of Fame coach after putting Gold Jacket on Devin Hester

As Sr. Colorado Football Assistant Director Of Player Personnel And High School Relations Devin Rispress reiterated on August 2 after Coach Prime handed newly inducted Pro Football Hall of Famer Devin Hester his Gold Jacket, Colorado has something no one else in Power Conference football has: a HOF coach who has been and there, done that, and could tell recruits about it.

Between the NFL coaching experience Shurmur brings and the multiple Hall of Famers on staff, including most notably the infamous Warren Sapp as one of the highest-paid GAs ever, Coach Prime has built a marketable brain trust to recruits in Boulder.
