Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders can wear his own Nike cleats this season
Shedeur Sanders can do something no collegiate athlete has ever done during the 2024 Colorado football season: wear his own cleats as part of an NIL deal with Nike that was announced on August 28; the day before the Buffs' home-opener against North Dakota State.
"Because Colorado is a Nike school, if Shedeur Sanders were to rollout his cleats this season, he theoretically could wear those in a game," On3's Pete Nakos wrote on X.
If this were to happen, it'd be the modern-day version of Michael Jordan wearing his own Jordan Brand shoes during NBA games. Deion Sanders was a pioneer in the NFL when it came to custom cleats, so it only makes sense that Shedeur will be a pioneer at the collegiate level with his father overseeing his affairs.
Shedeur Sanders is not interested in playing flag football at the 2028 LA Olympics
Shedeur has declared he won't be participating in flag football at the 2028 LA Olympics, even though Nike sponsors Team USA, expressing a fear of getting injured.
"No. 'Cause, bro, you could get injured, bro," Sanders told brother Deion Sanders Jr. when asked if he'd like to be part of the flag football team (h/t The Score).
And can you blame him for that fear? His 2023 season was spent being sacked more than any other quarterback in FBS football. He had a season-ending back injury from which he spent the offseason recovering.
Losing out on NFL millions to partake in an event that is unpaid and, truthfully, a much different sport from the one that pays his bill, isn't in the best interest of his career.
If that's not a popular decision, Coach Prime could take the blame for being overprotective. That same strategy could work at the 2025 NFL draft if Shedeur, Shilo, and Travis Hunter do pull an Eli Manning and demand a trade to a preferred team if Coach Prime wasn't bluffing on that in March.
