Deion Sanders accused of overhyping a Colorado football DL even Warren Sapp can't save

OutKick's Trey Wallace believes that Deion Sanders sold the world on a dream of a much-improved Colorado football defensive line and failed to deliver on any of that promise -- even with Warren Sapp helping the cause as a senior quality control analyst.

"Nebraska had zero problems rushing against this depleted Colorado defensive line, and not depleted because they don't have bodies," Wallace prefaced before saying, "I mean depleted because they are not what Deion Sanders has been selling in the build-up to this season. Hell, assistant coach Warren Sapp cannot help this group, and what does that say about the caliber of players."

Sanders' Buffs were bullied in the trenches on both sides of the ball against Nebraska in a humiliating Week 2 beatdown. Colorado's athletes didn't even look like they were in the same subdivision as the Huskers. The 28-10 score didn't properly convey just how one-sided this one was. Probably because Nebraska let their foot off the gas pedal in the second half while CU attempted to claw their back.

Sapp can only help those guys so much when they're up against elite Big Ten competition. That's what the Huskers look like in 2024.

Colorado looks like they did in 2023, though: unable to protect Shedeur Sanders and unable to stop the bleeding on the other end because their defensive linemen can't get past the best blockers in the country.

Deion Sanders must stop claiming Colorado football is coming when they're stuck in neutral

The silver lining is that Colorado doesn't look worse in year two. Karl Dorrell's squad took steps back every year until he was gone, but that's not what's going on here.

No. Sanders' Buffs aren't taking a step back. They're just not taking any meaningful steps forward either. Colorado is simply stuck in neutral.

And when you're stuck in neutral, you admit that. Coach Prime promised six wins and a bowl game at the Black and Gold spring game and was realistic about his team in front of his fanbase, but he doesn't stay consistent when in interviews.

"We Coming" may be true when Sanders says it. But he never mentions the timeline for when the Buffs will arrive.

It doesn't seem like it'll be in 2024.
