Deion Sanders continues to let Shedeur Sanders mismanage Colorado football offense
Deion Sanders' Colorado football team won the 2024 Rocky Mountain Showdown against CSU decisively; running up the score 28-9 in a game the Rams never had much of a chance in due to poor QB play and a defense that couldn't stop the Buffs' running game.
It's too bad Shedeur Sanders didn't run down the clock in the fourth quarter when the game was in hand for Colorado. Of course, the one way to drop something in hand like that is turning the ball over -- and dropping back to pass poses both the interception worst-case scenario and the chances of fumbling the ball in the backfield from a blindside hit worst-case scenario.
CU didn't do that. They left the fourth quarter open to chance. Given the way they blew a 29-0 lead to Stanford last season, the Buffs don't deserve the benefit of the doubt in these scenarios.
It's strange to watch Coach Prime allow his son to run the offense as he pleases with reckless abandon late in games. As great as Shedeur is 99% of the time, he does things that lose you games in the fourth quarter.
Coach Prime said he doesn't follow his son -- he isn't a "baby daddy" but a father -- and yet he follows his lead when it comes to late-game execution.
Deion Sanders may be more disciplined as Colorado football's head coach when Shedeur is gone
The "Daddy Ball" accusations are here to stay for Coach Prime as long as he allows Shedeur to do as he pleases.
What's funny is that Deion having his son around is holding him back despite the immense talent and big games from the "Grown QB" week after week. Once Shedeur is in the NFL, Sanders will hold his QB to a tangible standard.
Assuming Coach Prime doesn't just take his ball and go home. Retirement could be nice in a mansion sitting at the foothills of the Rockies once his sons are off to the pros.
