Deion Sanders wouldn't trust himself if NIL was around when he played

Deion Sanders shared an interesting perspective on how things would've been had NIL been available to him while he was an active player -- claiming that he'd need Jesus Christ himself to tell "Prime Time" to slow down.

“I don’t even know who to even compare me to what I would be like,” Sanders said (h/t On3). “Jesus. I would need help because of all the access, the internet. Trouble. I would really need Jesus to come down, himself. … ‘Slow down.'”

Coach Prime said he would've been in trouble at 19 with NIL available if he wasn't saved by Jesus Christ.

“Is he saved?” Sanders said of his 19-year-old self. “Because if he ain’t have the Lord with him … it’s gonna be trouble.”

Deion Sanders has said Colorado football isn't an ATM

Sanders has an interesting relationship with NIL.

On one hand, he sounds excited, if cautiously, at the idea of NIL during his playing days. But as a head coach, he has spoken out against it; going as far as warning prospective recruits that Colorado isn't an ATM.

"We’re not an ATM. That’s not gonna happen here,” Sanders told reporters on November 21 (h/t Clarion Ledger). “If you come to Colorado to play football for me and the Colorado Buffaloes, it’s because you really want to play football and receive a wonderful education.

“All the business stuff will be handled on the backend. But we are not an ATM. You’re not coming here to get rich unless you’re really coming here with a plan to go to the NFL and get your degree. Not to come here and be Moneybagg Yo. That’s a rapper, right?”

As time has passed, Sanders sounds more open to the concept of NIL. But it's unclear if he'll ever fully embrace it like other Power 4 coaches.

For CU's sake, he better. NIL is the primary recruiting tool teams have at their disposal now.
