University of Texas law professor Mechele Dickerson is stunned by the details of Colorado football safety Shilo Sanders' $12 million civil lawsuit against him from a security guard at Focus Academies, John Darjean.
More than anything else, Dickerson can't fathom how Deion Sanders, a millionaire with a full legal team at his disposal, didn't make his son privy to the ramifications of not following up on the lawsuit.
“There are parts of this story that make no sense to me," Dickerson said (h/t Yahoo Sports). “I have to say it’s kind of stunning given the wealth of the father that there wasn’t a lawyer involved advising them that you can’t just kind of ignore a lawsuit."
Shilo Sanders faces uncertainty across the board ahead of final Colorado football season
Shilo filing for bankruptcy in an attempt to escape this settlement to Darjean is a bad look for Coach Prime's middle son. What's also a bad look was his absence from the Black and Gold spring game and the denial of a report that he will miss time at the start of the 2024 season.
Shilo had a cleanup operation on his shoulder and was in a brace during Prime Weekend. His turnaround time for his surgery will most certainly mean missed games in September at the very least.
At this point, Shilo's NFL draft stock is taking hits from all angles. Even if NFL front offices may be able to look past his off-field issues -- one look around the NFL will tell you front offices will -- they may not be willing to put up with the mixed messages about his health. At some point, what he's dealing with will come to the light, and at that point, he'll need to answer for the health of his shoulder.
