Mike Farrell (of the Mike Farrell Sports brand) couldn't believe Deion Sanders complained about Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter not sweeping every eligible Week 1 award following Colorado's 31-26 win over North Dakota State. Sanders accused voters of having a bias against him personally.

"For the love of Christ," Farrell said of the star pair not getting more recognition following a 445-yard, four-touchdown showing from Shedeur and a 132-yard, three-touchdown showing from Hunter on August 29 at Folsom Field.

“You got a guy who threw for the most yards in college football, you got a guy who was proved that he was the most spectacular player in college football. Shouldn’t those two be talked about all week about the two leading Heisman guys? Or the weekly award should have gone to those two guys," Sanders said (h/t On3). "But it’s almost like, ‘No, we can’t do that. Their coach is Deion Sanders, we can’t do that. I’m not gonna let him get away with that.”

Deion Sanders continues to focus on the wrong things

Genuinely, who cares about these weekly awards? Colorado got the win in Week 1 and almost didn't. And they almost didn't because Coach Prime allowed Shedeur to focus on something he shouldn't have: getting LaJohntay Wester a big play through the air and not running out the clock.

Coach Prime is worrying about the wrong thing. His Buffs have one of their most important games of the year in Week 2 against their blood rival Nebraska. Even talking about Shedeur and Hunter's awards implies Deion is thinking too much about the pair's NFL futures and resumes.

That's certainly not going to quiet those who believe Sanders isn't interested in a future in Boulder beyond coaching his sons and Hunter.

Then again, nothing will stop that narrative. Not even assurances from Sanders.
