NFL executive disses Deion Sanders after Colorado football's loss to Nebraska
One NFL executive believes Deion Sanders doesn't know everything it takes to win as a head coach. After Colorado football's 28-10 loss to Nebraska in Week 2, Sanders' game plan, besides his ability to connect with players on an emotional level, was ripped by an unnamed NFL front office member.
"There is nothing wrong with what we said last year, that he tells the truth and connects with players," the second executive said to On SI. "But there's a lot more that goes into it than connecting with the players and telling the truth to the media about the state of college athletics. A lot more goes into winning, like blocking and tackling and protecting the passer and having the quarterback not scramble so frequently that everything is off timing."
Per On SI's Jason Jones, that opinion on Coach Prime is pervasive throughout the industry.
"One executive described Sanders as appearing unprepared, with his intense style driving people away, and accused him of primarily promoting his son, Shedeur Sanders," Jones wrote.
Deion Sanders' Colorado football program cannot be embarrassed again
Colorado ran into a buzzsaw Oregon team in Week 4 of the 2023 season and saw its hype train come to a nearly complete halt. Losing 42-6 to any team, even one as good as the Bo Nix-led Ducks, will do that.
CU won one more game that season. The Buffs' 2024 season saw the buzzsaw come in Week 2.
Coach Prime is facing more calls to leave after the 2024 season than he did following the conclusion of Boulder's "Prime Time" debut last year. The heat will be turned up if losing like this becomes a regular thing in the Big 12.
Especially since there isn't a concrete plan beyond Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter carrying the team during the current campaign.
