OK State a longshot, but in play, to leave Big 12 for the SEC

With Texas and Oklahoma now in the SEC, the Big 12 is buoyed by depth throughout the conference -- making Oklahoma State and Utah the teams with the most recent recent success and best current infrastructure in the conference.

Apparently, though, the Pokes are a longshot poach possibility for the "It Just Means More" conference.

If the SEC expands again, OK State has a 6.3% chance to make the jump per Vegas oddsmakers. They have the lowest odds of any team that was given odds and had worse odds than the field (7.1%). UNC (25%), Clemson (22.2%), and FSU (20%) had the best odds of anyone.

If Big 12 adds FSU and Clemson, OK State becomes more expendable

OK State has been a pillar in the Big 12/Big 8 since the 1960s. In theory, losing them would undo more history in a sport that's been abandoning history for profit for years; but at an accelerated rate in recent seasons.

In actuality, if the Big 12 is about to be the beneficiary of the ACC's demise and poaches its top programs, the Cowboys become more expendable.

The Big 12 is reportedly the only option for FSU and Clemson, according to longtime college football radio host Greg Swaim, and there could be more programs from the ACC with B12 interest if the former's Grant of Rights agreement is negotiated out successfully.

"As we've said for a year, FSU and Clemson will not get a B1G offer, due to neither being AAU accredited," Swaim prefaced before saying, "But from Vegas the talk is the SEC has now turned the pair down. With new sponsorship the B12 probably won't pay quite what the other two do, but with those two they'll pay double what the ACC does.

"And it won't end there. The talk is the B12 will take six from the ACC."

With the projected depth the Big 12 could steal from the ACC, losing OK State isn't the end of the world. But with the SEC not wanting FSU with Florida already in the conference and Clemson because of South Carolina, the Pokes joining Oklahoma in the "It Just Means More" conference doesn't sound all that convincing.
