OutKick shares outrageous reason Colorado football isn't focused on winning games
Deion Sanders' Colorado football program is graded on a much different curve than any other team in the country and sometimes it can be glaring how far outlets will go to slander the Buffs. OutKick's David Hookstead took it to the next level by claiming CU isn't worried about winning games because...they put their social media handles on the backs of their jerseys.
"I hate to sound like an old man yelling at clouds, but it's the little things that add up over time that make Colorado insufferable," Hookstead prefaced before saying, "Again, this team won four games last year. I can't stress that point enough. It's not like Colorado dominated college football last year and bought itself some breathing room. The team was awful after the first three games of the season.
"And yet, it seems like there are more distractions that ever before. Deion Sanders is complaining about video games, Shedeur wants to launch a rap career, Shilo and his brother did a fashion show and there's nonstop sniping over transfers and team drama. Now the team is putting social media handles on jerseys. It's not a huge deal, but it is just another sign simply winning football games might not be the only thing they're focused on. A player's Instagram account doesn't put points on the scoreboard the last time I checked."
As Hookstead notes, it's not a huge deal. At all. Especially considering schools have done similar things in the past, such as fellow Big 12 school UCF during the 2021 season.
The funniest part about Hookstead's message is that just last year, his outlet had the exact opposite message when CU did the same thing. OutKick's Grayson Weir lauded the move as forward-thinking on August 8, 2023.
"The exposure, even if it leads to just one additional follower, is serving its purpose," Weir prefaced before saying, "Colorado and Coach Prime continue to be one of the most forward-thinking programs in the country."
Media doing its best to demonize Deion Sanders and push him away from Colorado football
When something goes from forward-thinking to distracting, it's clear that an agenda is being pushed. In addition to knocking the custom jerseys, there've been rumors about Coach Prime leaving Boulder for Los Angeles to coach at USC.
Paul Finebaum's USC suggestion has no merit, though. Those in media circles believe there's a miniscule chance Coach Prime takes his act to the City of Angels, or any other Big Ten or SEC team for that matter. Sanders has autonomy at CU he wouldn't have anywhere else, and he's not giving that up for a program with a similar standing in its own conference.
It's easy to get lulled into the Coach Prime-leaving-Colorado narrative given how much it's pushed, but there's nothing concrete right now suggesting it's a legitimate possibility.
