Paul Hornung honor roll calls Travis Hunter's name, two-way star makes the cut
Travis Hunter redefined what it means to be a two-way player in CFB with his game-changing plays on both sides of the ball, which are expected to be even more magnificent now that Hunter is after the Paul Hornung Award once again.
The official X account of Colorado Buffaloes Football announced on Sept. 11 that the two-way phenom has officially made it to the honor roll of the esteemed Paul Hornung Award this season.
The 2023 Paul Hornung Award recipient has sky-high expectations to win the award this season too, as the year marks his final collegiate year.
No. 12's performance requires no justification, but his team does.
The lack of cohesiveness in the team led to the Buffs falling flat-faced in their Week 2 clash against Nebraska in a 28-10 loss. While that is bringing back questions from the previous season for head coach Deion Sanders, it is also bubbling up questions for Hunter; not because his performance is not up to the mark. Far from that, actually.
The questions are about whether the poor records of his team will affect the likes of Hunter getting the Paul Hornung Award, or even worse, the Heisman Trophy. Hunter is now officially touted as a top contender for the Paul Hornung Award and is in the talks as the top contender in the Heisman race.
Colorado football boasts two top contenders for the 2024 Heisman race
Looking at the history of the Heisman Trophy, QBs have brought home the trophy four times in the last five years.
That's precisely why the pressure is mounting on Travis Hunter to win the award.
His teammate, QB Shedeur Sanders, is also emerging as a top contender in the 2024 Heisman award list. USA Today ranked Sanders and Hunter ninth in the August 2024 rankings.
Now, all eyes are on the two-way WR/CB star to break the streak and etch his name as a top WR to win the Heisman in his last collegiate year as DeVonta Smith did in 2019.
