FOX Sports' RJ Young believes that Julian Lewis committing to Colorado football would end the persistent doomsday rumor that the national media will not let go of: Deion Sanders leaving Boulder once his sons leave for the NFL.
"We have folks that believe that Coach Prime has no reason to stay at Colorado once Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders are gone to the NFL. I think there's some credence to that because Prime got into coaching to coach his boys," Young said. "He watched them play in Little League. He didn't like the way the coach was coaching them thought he was going to get them hurt. He found himself getting up out of his chair more often than not to go to correct something or to help, and before you know it, he's coaching the teams. And he did that in high school at Trinity, and he did that at Jackson State, and now he's done it at Colorado. Everywhere that they have gone, he has gone, so if you think that he would follow them to the NFL, you got a point given what we've seen in the past.
"I think that a JuJu Lewis could help put down all of that and be like ‘nah, nah, nah, he has a five-star quarterback coming in as an heir apparent to Shedeur, who has the goods to play right away.'"
2024 Colorado football season will be all-in effort, but every year in Boulder under Deion Sanders will be
Sanders has followed his kids everywhere thus far in their playing careers, but Shilo (24) and Shedeur (22) are no longer kids. In 2025, they'll be professionals who will be becoming professional football players -- and Sanders has said he isn't a "baby daddy" who will follow them in the next step of their journeys.
While CU's 2024 season may seem like the Avengers End Game-esque "all-in" campaign that'll end Coach Prime's time in Colorado, the truth is that every year is all-in when you get 80% of your talent from the transfer portal.
If anything, Sanders should want to elevate the Buffs to new heights even after his sons leave so that he can secure his own coaching legacy. Having his coaching career's success tied to his kids doesn't sound like something Sanders will want in his storybook when it's all said and done.
