Shedeur Sanders has two-time Heisman-winning QB Johnny Manziel angry on behalf of the Colorado football OL for comments the "Grown QB" made about his Buffs protection following a 28-10 loss to Nebraska in Week 2; a loss he was sacked five times in.

Manziel found himself compelled to call out Sanders on an individual play because of the gall he perceived Coach Prime's youngest son having.

“If I was an O-lineman at Colorado, I’d be absolutely pissed. I mean, I really just don’t see how you do this," Manziel said (h/t The New York Post). “I don’t see how you come and throw your own guys under the bus that you’re working with. Grinding with every single week. Week in and week out.”

“I know early on in the game, one thing you don’t do from a quarterback perspective is throw a hitch route, late and on the inside for a pick-six. So I mean there is a lot of blame there in that throw that Shedeur made early in the game that turned into a pick-six and really got things, you know, started for Nebraska.”

Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders is making too many enemies

Shedeur cannot have the offensive line regress to 2023 levels. Against the Huskers, they did. The "Grown QB" was sacked 52 times in 2023. multiply five by 12, and you have a total that's eerily similar. Remember, Sanders only played in 10.5 games last season because he was hit so often his back became injured.

With that said, he also cannot expect to rally them when he belittles them to the national media. That's "Prime Time" spotlight malpractice from Shedeur.

As the 2024 season progresses, it appears the Buffs are right where they were last year. If they have improved their late-game execution, they figure to steal a few in the Big 12. If not, there's not much progress year-over-year.

And perhaps CU having a new leader under center next year who doesn't call out his teammates can lead to better results. With Coach Prime still around or not.
