Jason Whitlock defended former Miami flip Cormani McClain's treatment from Coach Prime during a spirited rant on the Colorado football head coach's perceived favoritism toward his son Shedeur Sand

"At no point during this entire season did the head coach – who had no problem calling out the offensive line, had no problem calling out his soft defense, had no problem calling out Cormani McClain, had no problem demoting Sean Lewis and blaming him – at any point did the head coach of the Colorado football team put any blame on his quarterback,?" Whitlock asked rhetorically (h/t Mike Farrell Sports). "Even after the game in which his son did not play and the backup quarterback came in and played lights out, Deion celebrated Shedeur after every game."

Whitlock claimed Shedeur is going to have a rude awakening at the NFL level once Coach Prime isn't overseeing his team.

"When the season was over, instead of talking about what Colorado needs and what this entire team needs, he came out and said ‘we know what Shedeur needs,'" Whitlock said. "This young man has been afflicted with daddy issues. When they turn this kid over to the NFL and he gets a taste of life without daddy coddling him at every turn, it won’t be pretty."

Coach Prime came around on Cormani McClain as Colorado football season progressed

Whitlock focused on how hard Coach Prime was on McClain during the beginning of the season, and to be fair, Deion Sanders was notably hard on the 5-star Lakeland product. But by season's end, Sanders spoke of McClain with a different tone.

"He didn’t give up,” Sanders said of McClain. “He fought to the end and I’m proud of him. He’s certainly growing. There’s something wrong with the plant that don’t grow and that kid is certainly growing and I’m happy that he’s growing. He’s not giving up. He’s lining back up there, bumping and running and he’s fighting his butt off."

McClain, once a transfer portal candidate, if not an obvious one, has a chance to be Coach Prime's first long-term star in Boulder; of course, if both stick around past 2024.
