Travis Hunter was deemed the best player in college football by CBS Sports -- which listed the two-way Colorado star at No. 1 on the publication's top 151 players list. CBS Sports' Blake Brockermeyer was mostly sold on Hunter's defense.

"A silky-smooth corner, Hunter is excellent in press coverage," Brockermeyer wrote. "In a Cover 2 scheme, he has the ability to undercut routes and make plays on the ball. Hunter has excellent hands and will sacrifice his body to make plays. He has fluid hips that allow him to trail his primary receiver, adjust to a ball thrown in his area and get involved for a PBU. Hunter shows an excellent ability to understand and match offensive patterns, as well as the make-up speed to catch up and make plays on a ball where he is slightly beaten."

Shedeur Sanders came in at No. 4. Brockermeyer predicted the "Grown QB" going No. 1 in the 2025 NFL draft and called Shedeur the best quarterback in all of college football.

"Sanders is my current pick to go first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft," Brockermeyer prefaced before saying, "He's also, in my opinion, the best quarterback in college football entering the 2024 season. Sanders has an excellent arm to make all the throws necessary and is an extremely accurate passer both in the pocket and on the move. Sanders does a great job keeping his eyes downfield to go through his progressions and make the high percentage completion despite the constant pressure he was under all season."

BJ Green was ranked at No. 129.

CBS ranked Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders much higher than ESPN

Hunter was ranked at No. 3, only slightly behind his CBS Sports rank, in ESPN's top 100 list. But Shedeur was ranked at No. 24, 20 spots lower.

As good as both players are, this writer offers a friendly reminder not to buy into their Heisman odds. It's going to take team success that the Buffs aren't capable of to get Hunter or Shedeur into that conversation.

It remains to be seen if CBS or ESPN is closer to the truth about Hunter and Shedeur.
