UCF's Gus Malzahn addresses Deion and Shedeur Sanders
UCF head coach Gus Malzahn had nothing but good things to say about Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders and his son, Shedeur, ahead of the Knights' September 28 home game against the Buffs at the Bounce House.
On Coach Prime, Malzahn praised how he does things his way -- even if that's a much different method of operations than the former Auburn coach's.
"He's brought more attention in the last, what, two years than they may have had since they won the national championship," Malzahn said (h/t Footballscoop). "Every coach has their own way of doing things, including me. I was a high school coach, I was isolated. Well, he's doing it his own way. Whether people agree or disagree, let me tell you, they're talking about it. And the national media's talking about it. Recruits like it. And it's a big deal (with Colorado) coming here. Let's say he wasn't the coach, it probably wouldn't be the same.
"I've got a lot of respect for him and the way he does it. I do it my way, he does his way. We're both outsiders."
As for Shedeur, who Malzahn scouted during his days in East Central Alabama in charge of the Tigers, the Knights' head man called him one of the best in the country.
"His son's one of the best in the country," Malzahn prefaced before saying, "I saw that at a camp when he was going into 10th grade: 'That guy's really good, he just happens to be Deion Sanders's son.'"
Shedeur Sanders has weight of Colorado football season on his shoulders as Buffs travel around the country in 2024
While Coach Prime reportedly has five to 10 more years of battling the likes of Malzahn and other Big 12 coaches, Shedeur has one more ride in front of capacity crowds like the Bounce House's. In 2024, he'll be doing his best to convince NFL franchises he's worth a top pick, but while doing so, he'll be carrying the full weight of CU's expectations on his shoulders.
After starting his career in the South in the SWAC, Shedeur's final season will see him travel everywhere from Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas to Florida and Arizona. Colorado will be upping the travel mileage in the Big 12 as Shedeur prepares to travel all around the country in the NFL in 2025 and beyond.
