Warren Sapp avoids significant injury after star Colorado football transfer lays him out
Colorado football GA Warren Sapp took a hard hit from ASU transfer BJ Green in fall camp, but he didn't suffer any injuries after engaging with one of the top-rated Buffs players in EA Sports College Football 25.
"Despite being shaken up and rubbing his left shoulder, Sapp didn’t appear to have suffered any significant injury," On SI's Kenny Lee relayed. "The 51-year-old re-entered the drill and managed to stay on his feet during a subsequent matchup with Green, demonstrating his resilience and determination to contribute to the team’s development."
Sapp had challenged his players not to come at him sideways back in June. He certainly didn't back down from Green.
"You come at me sideways, I’m going to take it," Sapp said during a conversation with Thee Pregame Show's Uncle Neely (h/t Essentially Sports). "It’s okay. Now I’m going to straighten you up. So it ain’t sideways, so we got a direct line of communication.
"It’s not personal. It’s June, I have seen them now. They are happily giving you what you demand."
Green gave Sapp what the GA likely demanded of him. If Colorado's defense can demonstrate a take-no-prisoners mindset -- first-year defensive coordinator Robert Livingston's specialty is the secondary, where he has Travis Hunter and several impact transfers -- best believe Green will be one of its shining examples.

Many had their doubts about Sapp being around college-aged men considering his track record off the field, but thus far, he has been a positive force on Green and the rest of the Buffs' defensive line. It helps that support staff function like coaches now.
If Green becomes an immediate first-round-caliber NFL talent under Sapp's watch, it could have him in line for a promotion from Coach Prime or a better job elsewhere. Perhaps even the NFL.
That's likely what's Sapp is looking for. It's a good thing he's not going into the season nursing any wounds. That'd be distracting for the Pro Football Hall of Famer during a make-or-break year for his career.
