Shedeur Sanders called out those who believe his father, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders, is too involved in his NFL draft process. Shedeur is expected to be a top-three pick this April.
"I didn't know your parents being involved and wanting the best for you is a problem," Shedeur told the media, per Sports Illustrated. "I think as parents, each and every one would want the best for their kids. The fact that he has the opportunity to do that for me and he has the best quarterback in the country, he's supposed to do that.
"He made sure we understand, 'we have a nice house, but this is all my stuff. This isn't your stuff.' We inherited that mindset. In any situation, we're comfortable wherever we're at."
As is now understood with Coach Prime not going to the NFL since the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders openings were filled with Brian Schottenheimer and Pete Carroll, respectively, Sanders meant it when he said he wouldn't follow his sons to the pros.
“Another misconception, I’m gonna leave when my kids leave,” Sanders said last year, per On3. “That’s the dumbest thing I ever saw in my life, like, I’m gonna follow my sons. Come on. That’s not a dad.
“No. 1, I don’t care. No. 2 is I think they think it’s about me. It’s never been about me. That’s why I’ve been going for about 30-some years now. It can’t be about you when you’re still going 30-some years later, right? It has to be about them. God blesses me because it’s always about somebody else and is always about another person. It’s not about me. He blesses me because we make sure it’s about the kids, it’s about the families, it’s about the mother, it’s about something else. That’s why God blesses me. I think that may be a misconception.”
Coach Prime is giving his sons space in their pro careers. He is doing everything possible to steer his son to the best place for his career.
Sounds like good parenting. Just on an unfathomable scale in the public's eye view.
