As an undrafted free agent, former Colorado defensive back - and son of Buffaloes head coach and NFL legend Deion Sanders - Shilo Sanders needs all the breaks he can get to have a legitimate shot at making the roster.
Throughout Training Camp and the preseason, Sanders had flashed his potential and impressed Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaches. Heading into Tampa Bay's final preseason game on Saturday night, Sanders seemingly had a decent chance of making the 53-man roster as a backup defensive back and special teams player.
Unfortunately, Sanders made a horrible mistake in his final chance to impress. He got involved in an altercation with Buffalo Bills TE Zach Davidson. Sanders threw a punch and was promptly ejected by the refs, ending his night early and potentially ending his short tenure with the Bucs.

Sanders went undrafted in April's NFL Draft before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Buccaneers. His chances of making the roster were already a long shot, but he had done enough to make the coaching staff at least give it a long thought on whether to keep him around. Now, after his premature ejection on Saturday night, his chances of making the roster might have just gone up in flames.
It was not a banner day for Deion Sanders' sons on Saturday's preseason slate
Before Shilo got ejected for throwing a punch, his younger brother Shedeur was struggling in his second preseason action for the Cleveland Browns. He completed just 3-of-6 passes for 14 yards and was sacked five times. To make matters worse, fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel shined, going 12-of-19 for 129 yards and a touchdown.
Unlike Shilo, Shedeur's spot on an NFL roster looks secure, but his chances of making a move up the depth chart went up in flames. In fairness to him, however, it once again looked like Cleveland was doing whatever it could to sabotage him at every turn.
For Shilo, he'll probably have to hope he can catch on with Tampa Bay's - or another team's - practice squad. That will give him around the league for a little longer, and possibly somewhere down the line this season, he could get a real NFL opportunity.
If and when that opportunity comes, he'll be best served to avoid throwing punches and getting himself ejected when he's fighting for his professional life.
