Shilo Sanders may not have won his dad’s car challenge, but he might have done just enough to sneak into the late rounds of the NFL Draft.

At Colorado’s 'We Ain't Hard 2 Find Showcase', Shilo ran a solid 4.52-second 40-yard dash—just shy of the 4.4-second mark his father, Deion Sanders, had set as the bar for a new car. While he didn’t get a new ride, that time is respectable for a safety, especially one known for his physicality rather than pure speed.

Speed has never been Shilo’s calling card. What sets him apart is his ability to lay the hammer in the open field, and play with high football IQ. Over the last two seasons at Colorado, he’s shown he can be a difference-maker, racking up 137 tackles, three tackles for loss, and an interception.

NFL teams likely see him as a fringe draft pick, but his showcase performance at least keeps the door open. A 4.52 isn’t elite speed, but it’s fast enough. Paired with his experience and leadership, a team needing safety depth could take a chance on him in the later rounds or as a priority undrafted free agent.

While Deion may not be handing over the keys to a new car, Shilo will be driving his way onto an NFL roster.
