Syracuse head coach Fran Brown has provided an update on the highly anticipated joint spring game between Colorado and the Orange, revealing that a decision from the NCAA is expected soon.

“They should be getting back to us by the end of this week,” Brown said, as both programs wait to hear if their groundbreaking proposal will be approved.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and Brown are pushing for what could be a historic event in college football. If approved, the Buffaloes and Orange would face off in a spring game format, breaking away from the usual intrasquad scrimmages. The NCAA currently prohibits teams from practicing against other programs in the spring, but Sanders and Brown believe the change would benefit their teams and the sport as a whole.

“For us to be the first to do it at two historic schools would mean a lot,” Brown said. “Two African-American men, too. To have the opportunity of doing that means a lot. Especially with [Deion Sanders] being an icon.”

The proposed game is tentatively set for April 19 in Boulder, aligning with Colorado’s spring game date. If the NCAA gives the green light, it could set a precedent for other programs to follow. With a decision expected soon, all eyes are on the NCAA to see if they’ll allow Sanders and Brown to shake up spring football.
