Butler was ranked the No. 166th player in the country according to 247Sports. He was ranked the 31st best wide receiver of his class and 12th best in the state of California.
Back in April of 2023, Butler held an official visit to Boulder. Steve Wilfong of 247Sports made a Crystal Ball prediction about Butler joining the Buffs just one month later.
Will Deion Sanders circle back on Aaron Butler?
On May 16, he committed to Colorado, but shortly thereafter visited schools such as Alabama, Washington, and Arizona.
Seven months later, Butler decommitted from Colorado and reopened his recruitment.
After receiving an offer from the University of Texas in late December, he immediately committed the following day, signing his national letter of intent. He enrolled in early January after taking his official visit.
A 17-yard reception against Sam Houston State was the lone pass he caught this past season as a member of the Longhorns.
It will be interesting to see if either he or Colorado still have interest in each other. Colorado isn’t exactly hurting in the wide receiver department, especially with hopeful returners such as Omarion Miller, Joseph Williams, Quanell Farrakhan Jr., and Quentin Gibson.
Additionally, Colorado recently signed former Sacramento State commit and four-star Xavier McDonald. McDonald decommitted from Sacramento State on Dec. 5th after learning that Brennan Marion was taking the offensive coordinator job in Boulder.
There are a lot of holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball, and the offense is pretty much set aside from the lack of depth along the offensive line. Wide receiver isn't really a major concern at the moment, but anything can happen with Coach Prime running the show.
