The transfer portal continues to present challenges for Tad Boyle and Colorado

Fawaz “Tacko” Ifaola and Felix Kossaras were the latest Buffs to enter the transfer portal.

The transfer portal era will present significant challenges for college teams that aren't considered blue-blood programs or among the college basketball elite. This trend also extends to the world of college football.

Players may transfer for several reasons, including seeking higher NIL or improved opportunities for playing time.

Tacko Ifaola didn't see much court time early in the season, but his minutes increased towards the end as Tad Boyle reduced Elijah Malone's. He had offensive limitations but showed major upside, unfortunately, it didn't pan out in Colorado.

Now, the 7-foot center and second year guard will be the latest Buffs to enter the transfer portal.

Ifaola and Kossaras mark the fourth and fifth Colorado players to announce their intention to enter the portal, joining Isaiah Johnson, Sebastian Rancik, and Bangot Dak.

Ifaola appeared in 20 games for Colorado, making two starts in February. He averaged 7.8 minutes per game with 2.1 rebounds. He wasn't really looking to score the ball, attempting just nine shot attempts.

Kossaras appeared in 29 games as a freshman in the 2024-25 season. He started 17 games this past season but was replaced by the talented freshman, Johnson, as his role diminished. He scored 14 points in the College Basketball Crown tournament loss to Oklahoma.

Following the departure of five players, Colorado is currently projected to have 11 scholarship players for the 2026-27 season. Coach Boyle will need to be aggressive in the transfer portal to find replacements for the lost production, or the team will have to rely on its existing core moving forward.

Colorado did sign two Australian recruits, Goc Malual and Alex Dickeson, which are included in the current total. The team had 14 scholarship players last season, so we might see the addition of three portal players, or even four, in the near future.
