The madness of March may be behind us, but for Colorado Buffaloes basketball, the real chaos begins now.

The transfer portal officially opened today, and head coach Tad Boyle is about to enter one of the most crucial off-seasons of his tenure. The Buffs are coming off a season with plenty of ups and downs, and now, roster changes are inevitable.

Who could be on the move?

Expect some departures. Forward Assane Diop has shown defensive upside but struggled offensively, which might make a fresh start appealing. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman guard Courtney Anderson Jr. hasn’t cracked the rotation, and players in his position often look elsewhere for playing time. Sophomore Bangot Dak and freshman standout Sebastian Rancik are names to watch, too, as their strong performances could attract poachers from bigger programs.

What are the Buffs looking for?

With Julian Hammond III graduating, point guard is the biggest need. The Buffs have young options, but Boyle likely won’t want to rely on unproven talent. One name already on Colorado’s radar is North Dakota State’s Treysen Eaglestaff, a sharpshooter who torched Alabama for 40 points earlier this season. Adding a seasoned floor general could be the key to keeping the Buffs competitive in the Big 12.

The next few weeks will be a whirlwind of activity. While some losses are inevitable, Boyle has a golden opportunity to reshape his roster and find the missing pieces to push Colorado basketball forward.

So, buckle up. The transfer portal ride is just getting started.
