Travis Hunter’s latest NFL comparison? Yeah, it’s a big one

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Travis Hunter is a freak.

A unicorn. A generational talent. Whatever label you want to slap on him, it still doesn’t quite capture what this dude brings to the field every time he suits up for Colorado. And now, ESPN’s Matt Miller has thrown out one of the most exciting comparisons yet—Odell Beckham Jr.

That’s right. The same Odell Beckham Jr. who turned the NFL upside down with his famous circus catch. If Hunter even comes close to OBJ’s early-career dominance, we’re looking at a future NFL superstar.

Even though its more likely Hunter will be a cornerback in the NFL, Miller sees Hunter’s future primarily at wide receiver. In his Heisman-winning 2024 season, he hauled in 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 16 touchdowns.

But let’s not forget his 35 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and four interceptions. This isn’t just a two-way player—it’s a two-way weapon.

Look, I get it. OBJ comparisons aren’t handed out like candy. The guy has nearly 8,000 career receiving yards and made one of the most iconic catches in NFL history. But what makes Hunter special is that he’s not just a flashy receiver—he’s a competitor in every sense of the word.

If there’s one thing Hunter needs to refine, it’s the technical aspects—route-running, release against press coverage, and maybe easing off the Iron Man workload a little in the NFL.

But make no mistake: if he lands in the right system and continues developing as a receiver, he will be much bigger of a star than OBJ.

Yeah, I said it.
