Urban Meyer said the quiet part out loud — this season’s gonna test Coach Prime in a whole new way.
And he’s not wrong.
On a recent episode of The Triple Option podcast, the three-time national champion didn’t sugarcoat his thoughts on what’s ahead for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes in Year 3.
Don't be fooled by the flash, Coach Prime is building something real at Colorado. 🦬

“He set a standard,” Meyer said. “Once you hit a nine-win (season), it's almost like, OK — the crowd will start to thin out if they start losing, and then you’ve got some issues.”
In other words? The honeymoon is over. Expectations are real now and the "feel-good story" era is over. This is about sustaining something.
Meyer mentioned how the gold watches and the flash, made him uncomfortable. But seeing how hard the team worked changed his perspective.
“There’s a culture there,” he said. “He’s tough on them. There’s no wasted time.”
That’s what we've already known. The outside world sees freshman QBs pulling up in Lambos. We’ve seen early-morning lifts and some serious grinding. There’s real structure in the Champions Center. And the roster? Meyer thinks it's more stable than it’s ever been.
Meyer pointed out that Deion brought in fewer transfers this offseason than in either of his first two years — and that’s a good thing.
“That tells you there’s stability in the program.”
Exactly. No more completely flipping the roster. Guys like Micah Welch, Drelon Miller, Jordan Seaton know the standard. These are seasoned talent.s
Bringing in NFL minds on the staff helps too — Marshall Faulk, Andre Gurode, Domata Peko, Andreu Swasey. Say what you want about flash, but these coaches bring a heightened toughness to the CU program.
So yeah, the roster looks different, but this season will be the one where we find out if this is truly sustainable.
Urban’s right — this is Prime’s hardest year. The margin is small, and the schedule is tough. Everybody is already doubting.
We open against Georgia Tech in 56 days. The quarterback will be different, but the standard Urban Meyer saw is still set. And we all know that standard isn’t going anywhere.
So bring on Year 3.
