Deion Sanders has already made waves in the college football world by assembling an impressive coaching staff at Colorado. His latest headline-grabbing move was hiring Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk as the Buffs’ new running backs coach. Could another legendary name be next?
Enter Ed Reed.
According to Darryl "Uncle" Neely of Thee Pregame Show, Coach Prime is expected to add another high-profile name to his Colorado staff. "It's a damn good hire," Neely told DNVR Buffs on Thursday, fueling speculation about who could be joining the Buffs in Boulder.
Reed was on campus in Boulder back in August, and with the improvements by the secondary from 2023 to 2024, this hire would make even more sense.

Reed is widely regarded as one of the greatest safeties in NFL history. A nine-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All-Pro, Reed was the anchor of the Baltimore Ravens’ secondary for over a decade, helping them win Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.
Most recently, Reed was named head coach at Bethune-Cookman in 2022, but his tenure ended before it officially began due to disagreements with the university. Despite the controversy, his passion for coaching and mentoring young players remains evident.
Adding Reed to the Buffs’ coaching staff would be another massive win for Sanders, who continues to stack his program with elite football minds. Much like Faulk, Reed brings instant credibility and a wealth of experience that could significantly benefit Colorado’s defense.
His knowledge of the game, ability to develop players, and relentless coaching style align perfectly with Coach Prime’s vision of building a championship-caliber program in Boulder. Having two Hall of Fame defensive backs—Sanders and Reed—on the same coaching staff would not only help on the field but also on the recruiting trail.
Imagine walking into a recruit’s living room and pitching a secondary led by two of the greatest defensive backs in NFL history. That’s an easy sell.
Sanders has already shown that he’s not afraid to swing big when it comes to assembling his staff. The Faulk hire proved that he’s willing to bring in former NFL greats to help build something special at Colorado. Whether it’s Reed, (or some rumors mention All-Pro Wide Receiver Chad Johnson), Coach Prime is clearly dedicated to surrounding himself with elite football minds.
No matter who he chooses, one thing is clear: Colorado’s staff will continue to feature an unmatched level of NFL experience.
The ball is in Prime’s court. Will he make the call?
