CU Buffs women’s basketball team go down after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Oregon State. It was a tough weekend for the once undefeated Colorado Buffaloes. It started out with a tough loss against one of the best team in the nation, the Stanford Cardinals. Putting it all on the floor but falling short 52-60. Nobody faulted the Buffs for it, but they weren’t able to come back falling short once again at Oregon State in a nail biting overtime loss 66-69.

Quay Miller once again came off the bench to be the leading scorer for the Buffs with 18 and 3 steals. However, turnovers loomed large for her with 4. Tayanna Jones came off the bench making her impressive mark with 10 points and 6 rebounds, along with 3 steals. Mya Hollingshed scored 13 points and 11 rebounds. Frida Formann matched Mya in points with 13 with 3 rebounds and a couple steals.

For the loss head coach JR Payne kept the reasoning simple. They made shots when they needed to and Colorado didn’t. It was a close battle all game. Pac-12 breakout star last week Jaylyn Sherrod got the scoring going to open the game but she couldn’t keep her offensive streak alive, only scoring 4 points in the matchup. Oregon State started to pull away at the start of the fourth, but some scoring from Formann and Hollingshed brought the Buffs right back in it. It was another back and forth battle and heart pounding exchanges from both teams. Colorado led as much as 5 deeper into the 4th quarter, but Taya Corosdale broke that up with a three pointer. Formann gave Colorado the lead back with just a minute and a half left to play, but Ellie Mack scored to take the game into overtime.

It wasn’t as much of a nail biting overtime, as the fourth quarter was. Both teams having trouble making shots. The game was tied for most of it, but a three pointer by Von Oelhoffen won the game Beavers. Colorado just didn’t have enough gas in them or enough time.

Colorado will get a bit of a break to recuperate. They continue their road trip to Arizona State on Friday in Tempe, where the Buffs men’s team took down theirs in a large fashion. It will be a 5:00 p.m. matchup on the Pac Network at Wells-Fargo Arena, where Colorado will once again look to bounce back after a two close heartbreaking victories. Onward and upward for JR Payne and her strong players who will persevere from this.
