Head Coach Karl Dorrell is showing full proof how you can learn from your mistakes. A life lesson for us all. During the press conference yesterday towards the end of National Signing Day he spoke a few words on the players who left the program, and what he could have done to prevent that.

Coach Dorrell explains that better communication would have prevented some of the transfers from leaving. He went out recruiting directly after the season was over and may have left a lot of players behind in their thoughts and where they wanted to go from there. Entirely focusing on the recruiting process for the betterment of the team. Looking back now he knows he should have handled that differently. Dorrell should have checked in on his players and had some interviews and discussions to see where everyone’s heads are at.

He does however wish all the players who left the best of luck in all their future endeavors. Dorrell explained he hopes they got what they were looking for, and he understands the tide has turned in college football. It’s the way of the world now.

Glancing back on it now Dorrell knows he focused too heavily on recruiting on not nearly enough time on his current players. It is good to have head coach who can admit his faults and learn from his mistakes in the future. Around the internet fans are saying how they respect the man even more now because of it. He knows he has to communicate better with his players from here on out. Though we can’t quite blame him for the laser focused attitude to recruit. The players we had last year weren’t getting it done and neither were some of the coaches. However, communication is the key to success in everything. In the next go around he’s going to have to have a balance of both for a truly successful program.
However, a coach who can be honest and grow is one that players are going to look up to. It will inspire and teach them to do the same. That being said he is looking forward to the new year with fresh eyes and fresh knowledge, with the talent to boot. Good things are happening in Boulder.
