Colorado Football: Karl Dorrell officially announces Gerald Chatman as new defensive line coach

There were more crazy times in Boulder last week when defensive line coach Vic So’oto decided to leave the program after just a few short months. Head coach Karl Dorrell came out in a press conference telling the fans he left for family reasons. Following his departure the Buffs may have gotten an even better asset in Gerald Chatman.

Those comments by Dorrell were quickly relinquished by So’oto who addressed it. Stating that family reasons were not a factor at all in his decision. He left for a better opportunity. Regardless of Dorrell’s remarks this is a business, and he will go to where he’s given the best offers. So’oto did go back home to California to coach the Bears yet still explained family reasons were not to blame.

From one short lived tenure to another on came Chatman who was quickly rumored to take over So’oto’s spot. He was only with Tulane for a couple of months. Prior to Tulane he spent time as the defensive line coach for LSU. If there is one thing we know about the SEC it’s how to play defense, and his defense was ranked 9th in the country in tackles for loss.

Gerald Chatman is a talented young coach with some great NFL experience. He has already had success in the AFC arguably the NFL’s best conference, and the SEC with LSU also a little less arguably the best conference in college football.

Monday night head coach Karl Dorrell formally announced him as the Buffaloes new defensive line coach. He is a former defensive lineman himself who now shapes and molds other lineman as a coach.
