The success of the Colorado football program will come down to Deion Sanders’ closest recruit: his son Shedeur Sanders, who unlike his other son Shilo, has only ever had Coach Prime as his collegiate HC. This, at least, according to Buffaloes Wire’s Stacey Blackwood.

“Colorado’s success against TCU and throughout the season will largely come down to how quickly Shedeur Sanders can transition to this level of college football,” Blackwood prefaced before saying, “Shedeur dominated at the FCS level, but facing the national runner-up from the previous season to open up the year will be a great litmus test for the son of the head coach.”

Shedeur proved to be adept in the passing game and improvisational in the running game when needed at Jackson State. True, the defenses he’ll experience in the Pac-12 will be a step up, but offensive line coach Bill O’Boyle overhauled an offensive line that couldn’t keep any of its stop-gap QBs safe in 2022 and brought in talent from the Power Five, Group of Five, and even from Jackson State to change that. No guarantees Shedeur is adequately protected all the time, but a great signal-caller can adjust and punish a blitzing defense with screen passes and scrambles. The youngest Sanders son could prove to be that in 2023.

Analyst calls Colorado football hire of Deion Sanders could be the best move ever made by Buffs’ athletic department

Blackwood believes that the Colorado football hire of Coach Prime could prove to be the best move ever made by the Buffs’ athletic department.

“I believe that the hiring of Deion Sanders will go down as one of the best moves ever made by the athletic department in Boulder,” Blackwood prefaced before saying, “Sanders has completely changed the culture and raised the level of expectations without even coaching a game for the Buffs.”

Boulder is a Big 12 city now, and the Buffs are a Big Noon Kickoff game in Week 1. It’s definitely starting to feel that way already; though there’s certainly a lingering feeling that CU could be a stop-gap for Sanders.
