Programs ‘thinking long and hard’ about poaching Coach Prime from Colorado
Unsurprisingly, universities around the country are “thinking long and hard” about making a run at poaching Coach Prime from the Colorado football program in the future according to Buffaloes Wire’s Matt Wadleigh.
“Naturally, other programs and perhaps NFL teams are likely thinking long and hard about trying to pry Coach Prime away from CU,” Wadleigh wrote. “Of course, it’s still early in his tenure with the Buffs, but something of the sort could be a possibility, especially with the unbelievable turnaround that has happened thus far.”
Deion Sanders addressed the interest of other programs, keeping things vague and giving one of his infamous colloquialisms via his mother Connie Knight.
“That’s a wonderful gesture, I love it,” Sanders prefaced before saying, “But I’m smart enough to know and old and wise enough to know that that can flip on you instantaneously. The fan only blows when you hot. My mama said that, not me. So if y’all want to get mad, get mad at my mama.”
Colorado football will have Coach Prime for at least as long as his sons and Travis Hunter stay in Boulder
The most likely future for Coach Prime and Colorado football is Sanders staying in Boulder for as long as his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo, and the top recruit in his coaching career, Travis Hunter, are around.
Sanders has told both his sons that they will be playing one more year with the Buffs. Shilo, by nature of playing through the 2020 COVID-19-stricken season, has at least one more year of eligibility. Shedeur debuted in 2021, meaning that he is in his third season now. Of course, eligibility waivers are handed out like candy these days — for some reason unless you’re name is Tez Walker –, so 2024 doesn’t have to be the end of Coach Prime’s kids’ playing careers.
Whenever they do hang it up, and Hunter heads to the NFL, both of which are possible following Sanders’ second season with CU next fall, the Coach Prime departure rumors figure to truly kick into high gear.
