Twitter clowns ‘report’ Coach Prime can get lifetime Colorado football contract
No, Coach Prime isn’t getting a lifetime contract worth $33 million per season to remain the head coach of the Colorado football program — despite a “report” from the College Football Blue Bloods account that such a situation was on the table.
“Experts believe that Colorado may offer Deion Sanders a LIFETIME contract to make him the highest paid coach,” the account prefaced before saying, “This means Deion would be paid over $30M per year, MUCH higher than Nick Saban ($11.5M), the current highest paid (coach), but the money is there… Colorado will benefit $150M economically from this football season via increased admissions, ticket sales, donations, & merchandise.”
Fans were not convinced of this in the slightest…
“They had to out his current contract on layaway,” one user prefaced before saying, “Pump the brakes for a minute there boss….he’s not passing Saban, Smart, Dabo, etc.”
“I’m not hating, but maybe pump the breaks and see what future seasons may bring? I’m not downplaying what he’s done for Colorado (going from 1-11 to 3-2) but make him the highest-paid coach after 3 wins? Ehhhh,” another user posted.
“He won’t accept a contract that ties him for life,” one poster relayed. “(A) 10-year contract at max should be offered. He’ll be 67-72 ish depending on if this contract is extended or from the time of signing. Hell take his family and health into any contact renegotiation.”
“Who’s the source? If the quote from Skip Bayless is all you got, than this is is a WEAK post, bro,” quipped one fed-up poster.
Coach Prime’s Colorado football future is undefined as of right now
With Shedeur and Shilo Sanders likely returning to Boulder in 2023, Coach Prime definitely has another year in charge of the Colorado football program ahead of him following the conclusion of his debut year at the Power Five coaching ranks.
Beyond that, though? It’s unclear. College football insider Bruce Feldman believes Deion Sanders will be a goner by the time the 2025 season rolls around.
“Two years from now? After the 2024 season? I would not be surprised if Deion Sanders is not the head coach at Colorado,” Feldman said (h/t AthlonSports). “I just don’t think that he is going to be there that long. It’ll either go really well. They were horrible before. So he goes from one win last year to maybe four or five this year. And then maybe eight or nine. Then I think he goes to a bigger school. Or it will not work out at all and they will all be at odds. I think there’s a lot of stuff that has the potential to create a lot of friction. If it doesn’t go great, then I think they go in a different direction.”
Once both his sons and Travis Hunter move on, it’s tough to project what will motivate Coach Prime in the coaching realm. Will a can’t-miss SEC or Big Ten opportunity pop up? What if finishing what he started in Colorado is on his bucket-list?
It’s hard to tell, but Coach Prime ain’t hard to find. A lifetime offer from CU making him by far the most-paid college football coach of all time is at this point, though.
